Most people use VPNs to watch Netflix. But if you’re not setting it to these 3 countries — you’re leaving content, money and privacy on the table.
You’ve probably seen all the flags popping up on FB and Threads lately…
Someone’s always talking about 🇮🇳 India for flight deals, 🇯🇵 Japan for anime, 🇨🇭 Switzerland for privacy…
They’re not wrong.
But here’s how to actually use them.
I’ve been testing these for a while now — across Japan, Canada, and a few other spots — and they work better than most people realise.
Let’s break down the top 3.
1. Japan — for Streaming & Speed 🇯🇵
This one’s a game-changer if you use Netflix (especially for anime or Asian cinema).
The Japan Netflix library is massive — and packed with shows that don’t show up in the U.S., UK, or anywhere else.
When I was staying in Osaka, I set my VPN to Japan and opened Netflix like normal.
Boom: completely different shows. Better layout. Faster streaming.
No new account needed. Just do this:
- Turn on VPN
- Set location to Japan
- Open Netflix
- Refresh browser if needed
If you’re on hotel WiFi or watching from your phone, Japanese servers are also some of the fastest and most reliable I’ve tested.
📌 Pro tip: Use a separate profile to get better recommendations based on your region.
2. India — for Cheaper Flights, Hotels & Subscriptions 🇮🇳
This is my go-to when I’m booking anything travel-related.
India is one of the cheapest VPN regions for:
- Flights (Skyscanner, airline sites)
- Hotels (Trip.com, Agoda)
- Airbnb
- Even Spotify & YouTube Premium
I once saved $140 on a Tokyo flight just by switching my VPN to India.
Same airline. Same date. Different IP = lower price.
A lot of travel sites tweak their pricing based on where they think you are. So if they think you’re in India, they show you the Indian market price.
You can also get Spotify Premium for under $2/month through this region. No tricks — just different global pricing.
3. Switzerland — for Privacy & Peace of Mind 🇨🇭
Sometimes I’m just trying to check my banking, upload docs, or connect to random airport WiFi. That’s when I switch to Switzerland.
Why?
- 🇨🇭 Has some of the strongest privacy laws in the world
- ISPs can’t legally log your traffic
- Great for peace of mind if you’re traveling and working
Even when I’m not on the road, I keep Switzerland as my default for general browsing. No speed issues either.
This is the VPN location you use when you don’t want to think about security.
